Travelling With Your Baby Made Easy

When you have a baby, suddenly the world is filled with a lot of adventures you can’t be a part of. But with changing times and the number of services available, travelling with your baby is not a far fetched idea anymore.

With a little research and efficient planning, you can travel safe and hassle-free with your baby. Here are a few things to remember when you prepare for a trip with your baby.

Prior preparation
It is important to pick a location that is safe and has all the facilities in terms of medical emergencies or a babysitting service when you travel with a baby, this will keep both you and the baby relaxed throughout the trip.

Shorter flights are preferable and many airlines offer priority boarding and special services for families, so look into it well in advance and utilise them. This will save you unnecessary hassle and make your travel experience comfortable. Make sure you pack for the trip well in advance as well, this will give you sufficient time to think of anything else you might have missed out on and add it to your list. Book hotels that are baby-friendly and provide baby amenities such as cribs, mosquito nets, diaper pails etc.

Minimal packing
Make a list of things your baby needs and filter it down to the essentials. Travelling around carrying a bunch of junk is the worst decision you can make, so make sure you avoid anything that isn’t absolutely necessary. However it’s okay to take your baby’s favourite toy or a muslin cloth that she is used to, this will help keep the baby calm and comfortable.

Don’t forget to pack based on the weather, carrying a baby sweater is always a good idea. Do not carry heavy strollers or a bunch of toys, it will be difficult carrying them around. Carry easily to wash and lightweight blankets and napkins for your baby. Stock sufficient tissues and wet wipes in your baby bag always.

Feeding during Travelling
Breastfeeding is the most convenient and safest option for feeding your babies. Carry sufficient mini formula food packets, this will make it easier for you to pack, use and store it. Do not experiment with any new food flavours when you are travelling. Stick to the usual flavours and mix hot water with the food. Carry a flask with you at all times and make sure to feed your baby boiled water and do not rely on packaged drinking water. Keep your baby sufficiently fed and hydrated throughout the trip. It is always advised to feed your baby during landing and take off, this will keep the baby calm and also prevent earaches due to changes in air pressure levels.

Planning your flights based on the baby’s sleep schedule is very helpful as babies tend to get fussy during air travel.

Medical Necessities
Consult with your paediatrician and carry all your baby’s medicines for your travel well in advance. Also, check for any immunizations that might be required for your baby based on your destination at least two weeks ahead for your travel plans. Carry everything from diaper rash creams to mosquito nets to protect your baby. It is very important to be self-sufficient as far as your medical supplies are concerned.

Now, what are you waiting for? Go plan that trip and don’t let having a baby keep you from travelling around the world.
